Sport of Kings Luncheon

With her Sport of Kings Flemington Luncheon fast approaching, we speak to Victorian Wakeful Club member Kerri Spillane...

I have always had an interest in horse racing. In addition to working at Hardie Grant Media, I was the Chair of the Women of the Melbourne Cricket Club (WoMCC) and for a number of years the WoMCC held a Raceday. In my last year with the WoMCC my committee colleagues decided to do an alternative function, so rather than lose the momentum of a raceday I decided to start my own annual event.

In 2016 with that in mind Sport of Kings Events was born with the intention of organising an annual Raceday for colleagues, friends and family to come together at the races and while enjoying a great day out, raise money for a worthy racing industry cause. Also as racehorse owner and keen racegoer I wanted to give back in some small way to an industry I believe in and am passionate about. Guests include Racing club members and racing enthusiasts, VRC, MRC and MCC members, corporates and individuals; all like minded people who enjoy a day at the races and raising money for a great cause.

We secured the VRC Committee Room at Flemington, which is the ultimate racing venue, with its history and traditions makes for a very special experience. We engage various speakers each year and have award winning Milliner, Karen Hamilton in the room with her latest creations. We have wonderful sponsors and supporters who provide amazing items for auction and raffles to assist with our fundraising and we have also been able to provide every guest with a gift bag. The cost includes all food and drinks for the whole day as well as entry into the Flemington Members and the Committee room. Parking is also provided if required.

We have supported the National Jockeys Trust for the last couple of years and this year we will be supporting the Racing Hearts program.

Hope to see you there!

Kerri Spillane
