The Victorian Wakeful Club provides two scholarships and a bursary annually to dedicated young women who excel within their chosen study fields.

Named after our founding member Mary Martin who sadly lost her life in the Black Saturday Bushfires. It is presented to a student undertaking the Bachelor of Equine Studies at the Melbourne Polytechnic College (formerly Northern Melbourne Institute of Tafe (NMIT). Mary was much loved and enormously respected by her fellow members.  She was elected Treasurer of the Victorian Wakeful Club at its inaugural meeting on 27th August, 2001 and held that position until her passing in 2009.

Previous winners include:

2016: Stephanie D' Elbee Bolger

2017:not awarded due to Melbourne Polytechnic restructuring their Equine Studies programme

2018: TBA

2019: Emily Schulz

This scholarship is awarded to a Trainee Apprentice Jockey at the Racing Victoria Jockey School and is presented at the Lady of Racing Awards Luncheon. The award is named after Marie McCullough, who helped found the Victorian Wakeful Club and was the driving force behind the Lady of Racing Award.

Previous winners include:

2016:Georgina Cartwright

2017: Chelsea Hall

2018: Stephanie Thornton

2019: Mikaela Lawrence

This bursary is awarded bi-annually to a student of the Equine Management Course. As all students are required to bring their own horse to the College as part of their study, support with sourcing and financing their horse was given to students in the past. In 2018 a monetary bursary was presented to a student of merit who was chosen by the Marcus Oldham staff.

2018: Taige Weir

The Victorian Wakeful Club is looking forward to the continuation of these scholarships and bursary to hep promote the further education of young women in the thoroughbred and racing industries. As a not for profit Club, these initiatives are fiananced through donations and the fundraising efforts of our club members. The Victorian Wakeful Club hopes to be able to provide further support within the industry in the near future.
