This will bring the total to around six prem foal units. (See article below)

The Victorian Wakeful Club made a donation to the Melbourne University Equine Hospital after the Members visited the Equine Hospital at Werribee.
Dr. C.J. (Kate) Savage, Head of Equine Clinical Services and Specialist in Equine Medicine, conducted a very informative tour of the facility run by the Melbourne University. The very size and physical structure of horses makes their treatment extremely complex, especially when they are sick, in need of surgery from accident or ilness, and most of all in recovery.
As nearly all of the members, are involved in breeding as well as racing, we were all very impressed with the hospital facilty. At the time of our visit, the hospital had no special facilities, for mares with premature foals. Premature delivery is a factor in horses, as well as humans, with some foals gaining full recovery, and normal life, if treated promptly. The hospital was most grateful to receive the donation, for the prem foal unit, and this prompted the University to purchase of another five units designed especially for this purpose.
