2011 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

At the recent AGM held on 27th October 2011 all previous Committee members were elected unapposed. The President is Cherie Crawford, the Vice President is Jenny Moodie, Secretary is Fay Stokes and Treasurer is Dawn Perry. We elected a new Ordinary Member Heather Brideoake, and Teresa Poon was re-elected as an Ordinary Member.  

GENERAL MEETING HELD 27TH OCTOBER 2011

Our General Meeting was held at the same time as our AGM and it was a very lively and interesting Meeting with many topics covered. The Members have decided to move the annual Lady of Racing Award Luncheon to the Autumn and the Luncheon will now be held on 22nd February 2012 at the Melbourne Racing Club. We will be inviting nominations for the Award so please go to our Nomination form on the website to download. The Club has had a very busy year with a change of President from February 2011 and other office bearers taking up key positions. Many of our members have had a lot of success and bad luck as well in racing and breeding their Horses, so a successful Spring and Autumn carnival is welcomed by us all.

 10th BIRTHDAY LUNCH AT MOONEY VALLEY

On Saturday 20th August, 84 Members and Guests celebrated our Victorian Wakeful Club 10th Birthday Anniversary luncheon in the Cox Plate Room at Moonee Valley Racecourse. Our Host was Bryan Martin who organised our betting arrangements and at the end of the day between us we raised $1,950.60 as a donation to Living Legends. Dawn Perry, our Treasurer,  had baked two celebration cakes for us and Marie McCullough our founding Member cut the cake amidst a lot of applause.

Cherie Crawford our President introduced 3 new members into the Club, Dianne Zanetti, Pam Sloss, and Sande Stewart. Our other new Member Lisa Riley was unable to attend. During the day and thanks to Kerry Gillespie we were introduced to two wonderful lady jockeys, Michelle Payne and Kaitlyn Mallyon. Bryan conducted very interesting interviews with them enabling us to find out details regarding their racing careers and their personal lives. Bryan also interviewed Mick Kent, a leading Trainer, who kindly suggested we follow Philda in the last race - we did and he won, so most of us finished the day on a winning note. The day was a huge success and the hospitality staff in the Cox PLate Room were excellent. The food was superb, Dawn's cake as our sweets went down very well and overall it was a memorable day for all of us.
